Maxed out a 0% balance transfer card six months ago and now I'm watching the interest clock tick

I opened a Citi Simplicity card with 21 months no interest to move $4,200 from an old card, but after a car repair and a pet emergency I've only paid down $600, and the thought of that 18.99% APR kicking in next year is making me rethink whether I should just bite the bullet and take a personal loan instead - anyone else been burned by the balance transfer trap?

Personal loan rates might beat that 18.99% hit. Look into SoFi or LightStream.

Yeah that balance transfer trap is rough lol. It's like how stores get you with those "buy now pay later" deals, they're betting you won't pay it off in time and honestly they usually win.

Kimr74 has a point about checking personal loan rates, but here's the thing - you're already in a hole, don't dig another one. That balance transfer card was supposed to be your lifeline, and now you're looking at another loan with its own fees and terms. The problem is you're treating debt like a game of hot potato, just passing it around instead of paying it off. Cut your budget to the bone for a year, pick up extra shifts, sell stuff you don't need - do whatever it takes to kill that balance before the interest hits. Those personal loans often come with origination fees that eat into what you're trying to save. Been there, done that, and the only way out is through, not around.
