My credit card company sent me a 'congrats' letter for paying off a $2,500 balance I never had

I called them and the agent just kept repeating 'the system shows a zero balance, sir' like a broken record. Has a weird error like this ever messed with anyone's credit report?

Ugh, tell me about it. My credit report once had a car loan listed that I never took out. Turns out it was some guy with my same name in another state. Took forever to fix and my score looked like a train wreck.
