Shoutout to the person who posted their 720 to 780 credit score jump in 6 months

I used to think credit scores were just this random number that banks made up to mess with people. My score sat at around 640 for like 4 years. Then last week I saw this post from a guy in Phoenix who showed his score went from 720 to 780 in just 6 months. He said all he did was pay his credit card balance down to under 10% utilization and never let it report more than that. I figured I'd try it because what did I have to lose. So I paid my cards down to like $300 out of my $5000 limit and my score jumped 45 points in one month. I called my card company to ask and they confirmed that's a thing. Has anyone else been sleeping on utilization like I was?

Paying down utilization is the fastest way to move a score.

Is that really true for someone with a thin file and a few late payments though? @piper_kim I think for a lot of people, simply getting a secured card or disputing old errors can move a score faster than paying down a balance.
