That $30 credit monitoring service I laughed at actually saved me
I signed up for one of those paid credit monitoring plans back in March just to shut up my wife... figured it was a total scam. Then last month I get an alert about a new credit card opened in my name in Houston. Called the bank and they confirmed it wasn't me, froze everything before any damage. Still feels weird paying for something I thought was useless. Anyone else have a skeptical credit service turn out to be worth it?

Had a buddy who laughed at his bank's identity theft protection until his card got skimmed at a gas station in Ohio while he was sleeping in California. The service flagged 8 fake charges before he even woke up, and they reversed everything within 48 hours. He said it felt like cheating to have someone else deal with all the phone calls and paperwork. He's still a little embarrassed about it but swears he'll never cancel. Did your wife give you the "I told you so" look?

Honestly, the real scam is banks charging you extra to do their own job of catching fraud.

@mary_west did your wife actually say I told you so or did she just give you that look?
