The balance transfer trap I keep seeing people fall into
I've noticed a lot of folks in this group talking about balance transfers like they're free money, but nobody seems to read the fine print about the transfer fee. Last month my buddy moved $4,000 to a 0% APR card and thought he was slick, then got hit with a 5% fee that wiped out half his savings on interest. The math only works if you actually pay it off before the promo period ends, and most people just keep making minimum payments like it's a regular card. I worked the numbers on my own $2,300 balance and realized the 3% fee plus the new monthly minimum meant I'd only break even if I cleared it in 11 months. That's cutting it way too close when life stuff happens, like my car repair last spring that ate up my extra payment. Has anyone else run into a hidden fee or clause that made their transfer not worth it?

Is the fee really the problem though? You knew the terms before you signed up. The trap is people treating a 0% window like it's free money without a plan. I did a $1,800 transfer last year, paid a 2% fee, and set up autopay for way more than the minimum from day one. Cleared it in 8 months, no sweat. The math only fails if you let it fail. Your buddy's issue wasn't the fee, it was thinking the card would fix his spending habits for him.
