Update: My credit union in Boise showed me a free tool I never knew about

I was at my local branch last Tuesday to ask about a car loan. The banker pulled up my account and said, 'Let me show you our credit score simulator.' It's a free online tool they have that lets you see how things like paying off a card or getting a new loan might change your score. I played with it for 20 minutes, putting in different numbers. It really helped me plan to pay down my $2,000 balance. Does anyone else's bank or credit union offer something like this?

Honestly sounds like a lot of work for a guess. Miller.emery is right that it's just an estimate, so I wouldn't stress over the exact numbers it shows. My bank has something similar but I never use it, seems like extra noise. Just pay your bills on time and your score will mostly sort itself out.

Man, this reminds me of when I was trying to get a car loan. I spent hours messing with those simulators, changing this and that. In the end, the real number from the bank was like 20 points off from all my guesses. Total waste of a Saturday.

That's a great tool, but just so you know, it's a simulator, not a real score update. It's showing you an estimate based on common formulas. Your actual score change could be a bit different when the bureaus actually calculate it. Still super useful for planning though.
