Vent: My credit score was stuck at 680 for over a year. Tried something new.

I started paying my card twice a month, right after my paycheck hits. My score jumped 35 points in 3 months. Does this work for everyone or did I just get lucky?

Wow, that's a huge jump. I'm stuck in the same spot. Did you keep your normal spending the same, or did you cut back too? I'm trying to figure out if the boost is from paying more often, or from having a lower balance when they check it.

It's not about spending less, it's about what they see on statement day. Paying down the card right before it reports shows a lower balance. My normal spending didn't change, just the timing of the payment.

Hold on, you're still spending the same amount each month? That's wild to me. I cut back on everything non-essential for a solid six months. The lower balance when they checked it was the whole point. How can your score move if you're not showing them you owe less money?
