I called SMS codes a joke for years, then my bank account got drained on a Tuesday
Three years ago a guy at a security meetup in Denver told me to stop using text message codes and I laughed at him. Last week my phone got a weird popup and 10 minutes later I was locked out of my email. Turns out someone called my carrier, pretended to be me, moved my number to their SIM, and then grabbed everything. $2,400 gone from my checking before the bank froze it. I finally set up an app that makes a new 6 digit code every 30 seconds, and I also had to call and put a PIN on my carrier account so nobody can move my number again. If you still use text codes for your bank, what made you stick with them?
