Just switched from a free antivirus to Bitdefender and the difference is night and day

I ran Avast Free for years and thought it was fine, but after my cousin got a ransomware attack last month, I looked closer. Bitdefender caught 3 hidden trojans on my system that Avast totally missed, and it uses way less CPU. Has anyone else made a switch that actually found real threats?

Switched to Malwarebytes last year and it dug up a keylogger my old Norton install missed. Free AV just doesn't cut it anymore.

Free tools can work great if you know what you're doing, right?

Yeah, the part about free AV not cutting it anymore is so true. I read this tech blog last week that tested a bunch of them. They found most free versions don't even check for the newest types of malware, like fileless attacks that hide in your computer's memory. My friend had a similar thing happen with a different free program, it just totally missed a sneaky adware bundle. It really makes you wonder what's slipping through.
