My nephew's IT buddy told me I needed to update my router firmware or get hacked
He showed me on his laptop that my 3 year old router had 12 known security flaws and I changed the admin password and updated the firmware that same afternoon, anyone else ever ignore those update notifications?

My neighbor's IT guy told me the same thing about my old Netgear router... I had 8 known flaws and hadn't touched the admin password since I set it up. Updating the firmware and changing that default password took maybe 20 minutes and I haven't had a single issue since then. Its one of those things where you don't realize how exposed you are until someone actually shows you the list of vulnerabilities.

Honestly I was guilty of ignoring firmware updates too until I saw my own router's vulnerability list like that, changed my whole view on it.

That part about "hadn't touched the admin password since I set it up" hits close to home. I set mine up the day I bought it and never looked back. When you actually looked at the list of flaws, which ones scared you the most? Were they the remote code execution ones or the ones that let someone just walk into your network?
