My password manager locked me out for 3 days
Last Tuesday I was updating my vault with new passwords for work and suddenly the master password I've used for 2 years just stopped working. Turns out the auto-update had a bug that corrupted my local database file. Anyone else ever had this happen and find a way to recover without losing everything?

Always had better luck just exporting a backup every few weeks to a plain text file for safekeeping.

Honestly, I read something the other day about how plain text files are actually way more reliable than most backup software because there's no proprietary format to worry about. Ngl, that made me rethink my whole setup since I've been burned by corrupted databases before. Tbh, the simplicity of just having a .txt file you can open on any device is pretty hard to beat. Heard someone mention that even if the tech changes completely in 20 years, a plain text file will still be readable.

Oh wow, yeah I used to roll my eyes at people who swore by plain text backups. Thought they were being paranoid or old fashioned. But honestly after losing a bunch of stuff to a corrupted database a couple years ago I get it now. There's something to be said for a file format that literally hasn't changed since the 70s and probably never will. Might have to start doing the same thing myself just for the peace of mind.
