Shoutout to the guy who warned me about public Wi-Fi at coffee shops

I always rolled my eyes when people said not to use public Wi-Fi for banking. Then last month I logged onto the guest network at a Starbucks in Phoenix and got a fake login page that looked exactly like my bank's site. Close call. Anyone else seen these fake login pages popping up?

Set up a separate "burner" bank account with a tiny balance for when you have to log in on public networks. I keep one with like 50 bucks in it for emergencies, and I only use it from coffee shop Wi-Fi or hotel networks. That way even if someone snags my login, they are getting basically nothing. It takes five minutes to set up and it saved me a lot of worry. Makes the whole public Wi-Fi thing way less stressful.

Snags my login" is exactly why I love this idea. It's so simple but keeps your actual money safe. We all get lazy with Wi-Fi, so this is a solid backup.

Fifty bucks is the sweet spot for that idea. Keeps it small enough that a loss stings a little but doesn't ruin your week. Smart way to sleep better on the road.
