That burner phone advice from my IT buddy saved my butt in Vegas

My buddy Dave who does IT for a casino always said keep a burner phone for travel, no personal apps, no banking. Last month I flew to Vegas for a trade show and lost my main phone in a cab on the Strip. I had that $40 prepaid flip phone in my bag, so I could still make calls and check work emails, but every transaction on my credit card stayed locked because I couldn't do the two step verification. Turns out the fraud department flagged a hotel restaurant charge anyway, so I was stuck for 3 days with zero access to my rent money.
