That free password manager app almost got me hacked last Tuesday
I figured I'd try out this free password manager I saw in an app store ad. It had like 4.5 stars and thousands of downloads, so I loaded all 47 of my passwords into it. Next morning I got a weird email saying my account was accessed from a location in Nigeria. I checked and that app had been logging everything in plain text on their servers. I spent 3 hours changing all my passwords and setting up a proper paid manager instead. Has anyone else had a sketchy experience with a free security tool that seemed legit at first?

Oh come on, you can't blame the APP for your own bad judgment. Free password managers are a risk you KNOW you're taking, that's like complaining a free umbrella let rain through. I've used free ones for years and never had an issue because I don't put 47 passwords in something I found on a random ad. You basically handed your keys to a stranger and are shocked they took your car for a spin. Paid managers have their own problems too, like getting hacked or charging you forever. Maybe next time just use the one built into your browser or write them on paper like a normal person.

Well that's one way to look at it, but doesn't that just mean the free ones are only good if you're already careful... what about people who aren't tech savvy and just want something that works?
