That free wifi at LAX almost got me scammed last weekend

I was waiting for my flight at gate 24B and connected to "LAX_Free_Wifi" without thinking. After 10 minutes my bank sent a fraud alert about a $400 charge at a store I never heard of. Turns out the real airport wifi is "LAX_WiFi" and that other one was a fake setup. I checked with the info desk and they said it happens all the time there since it's a busy terminal. Now I always ask staff what the official network name is before connecting. Anyone else run into fake wifi networks at airports or hotels?

Hit with "that same scam" like it's some life changing event. People lose a couple hundred bucks in Vegas every day. Your buddy probably just got hustled for a few drinks and a bad hand at poker.

Feel like losing a couple hundred bucks on purpose is different than getting straight up tricked though.
