A client at my grooming shop in Madison told me she had to choose between paying her vet bill or her rent this month.
She was holding her old beagle and said, 'He's family, so the rent can wait,' which really stuck with me and makes me think about the impossible choices people face quietly every single day.

Man, the universe really needs to hand out a better script sometimes. Like maybe a side quest where you find a bag of cash instead of choosing between your dog's meds and your power bill. Ruby_jones had it right with that list though, my cat would sell my soul for a squeeze treat and that's basically his only hobby at this point. It's wild how they become these little furry anchors in your life, and the cost just becomes part of the deal, even when it means eating beans for a week.

My old lab Max taught me that kind of love... it's a heavy choice to make.

Honestly what helped me was making a list of his favorite things. When he stopped getting excited for his morning walk and wouldn't even lift his head for a chicken treat, that list made the choice clear. It was still the hardest drive of my life.

Yeah that "heavy choice" part really hits. It's not just about the final vet visit, it's all the smaller times you put their comfort first even when it's hard. Like skipping a trip because they're anxious or carrying them when their legs get weak.
