Appreciation post: the old guy at Home Depot who told me I was doing it all wrong
I was at Home Depot last Saturday buying paint for my living room, and this older employee in the paint aisle just shook his head when he saw me grabbing a roller cover. He told me I was using the wrong nap size for smooth walls, and honestly I almost ignored him. But he walked me over to the sample board and showed me the difference with a 3/8 inch versus a 1/2 inch nap, and man, the finish came out way smoother. I used to think all roller covers were basically the same, but now I check the packaging every time. Has anyone else gotten good advice from a store worker that actually saved you a whole afternoon of frustration?

I used to grab whatever roller cover was cheapest and never thought it mattered. Your story about that Home Depot guy and the nap size changed my mind completely. Now I actually read the package before I pick one up.

@lindag33 same here. I spent years buying whatever was on the bottom shelf and wondering why my walls looked like crap. The 3/8 inch nap for smooth walls was a game changer for me. Now I actually plan out which roller to grab before I even open the paint.

My buddy Dave tried using a 1/2 inch nap on his bathroom walls and it looked terrible.
