Changed my mind about cheap drain cleaner after it ate through a pipe

I spent $4 on a bottle of liquid drain cleaner and it worked great until it dissolved a section of PVC under my sink two days later. Cost me $180 for a plumber to cut out and replace that pipe. Anyone else had a cheap fix turn into an expensive problem?

Wait, it ate through PVC? I thought that stuff was supposed to be safe for pipes. How does a drain cleaner even melt plastic like that?

Yeah no kidding, that exact same shit ate right through my kitchen sink pipes last year.

Funny thing is I used to be one of those people who thought cheap stuff was fine (you know, why pay more for the same thing?). But after seeing what happened to your pipe it totally flipped my thinking. That stuff might work on the clog but it keeps working long after you pour it down the drain. Seems like saving a few bucks upfront can cost you way more in the long run if it eats through your plumbing.
