Changed my mind about farmers markets after visiting one in Austin last weekend

I've always thought farmers markets were overpriced and just for people who want to show off. But I went to the one on South Congress in Austin last Saturday and it was different. A guy selling eggs told me his chickens roam on 10 acres and he only charges $4 a dozen. That's cheaper than the fancy eggs at my grocery store. I also saw a lady selling honey and she let me taste three different kinds from different flowers. The difference was crazy. Now I get why people drive 30 minutes to go to these things. Has anyone else had a market change their mind?

Yeah the honey samples got me too, now I bring my own jars.

Are we really acting like trying different honeys and buying $4 eggs is some kind of life-changing experience now? I mean, cool, the chickens have ten acres, but at the end of the day you're still just eating an omelette. And yeah, honey tastes different depending on the flower, that's kind of how flowers work. I feel like people get a little too excited about paying for the story behind their food instead of the food itself. Not saying farmers markets are bad, but let's not pretend you just discovered a secret world because a guy in a flannel shirt let you taste some honey.
