Found out my grocery store marks down bread at 7pm every night

I was at Kroger last Thursday grabbing stuff for dinner and noticed the bakery guy putting orange stickers on loaves at like 7:15. He said they do it every day, so now I just swing by then and grab a couple loaves for half off. Has anyone else noticed a specific markdown time at their local store?

Read somewhere that Walmart marks down bakery stuff at 8am. Different stores have different times. Our local Safeway does it right when they close at 9pm, manager told me once. Usually grab day-old bagels for my kids' lunches, save a ton. Worth checking with the bakery staff, they're usually happy to tell you when.

Heard a friend got a whole birthday cake for three bucks that way.

Oh absolutely, you nailed it. Different stores really do have their own weird schedules for markdowns. I've found that talking to the bakery staff is key, but you gotta be nice about it. They deal with enough hassle from customers all day. I usually just ask them when they typically rotate stuff out, and most times they'll tell you the exact time. Some even set things aside if you're a regular and they know you'll buy it. It's amazing how much you can save just by being polite and showing up at the right moment.
