Had to tell a regular client I couldn't fit her dog in this week

She came in yesterday with her poodle, Max, and I was already booked solid. I told her I could get him in next Tuesday, but she got really quiet and said, 'It's just, he gets so anxious with anyone else.' I felt awful because I know Max, and she's right. But I had three other dogs waiting and a full book. Has anyone else had to turn away a good client because you were just too full?

That "he gets so anxious" line is the worst. I keep a short list of groomers I trust for exactly this. I'll text a client something like, "Jane at Paws Place does great work, want her number?" Takes the pressure off you and helps them feel sorted.

I used to just say no to anxious dog requests... but keeping three groomer numbers in my phone notes changed everything. It really does take the pressure off.

Remember my friend's "gentle giant" that ate a groomer's clippers?
