Hit 100 days of keeping a mood tracker and the pattern was depressing
I started tracking my mood daily back in March because I felt like I was just grumpy all the time. Wanted to see if it was really that bad or just in my head. Turns out I was in a low or neutral mood 78 out of those 100 days. The only times I felt good were weekends after I got more than 7 hours of sleep. Kinda mad I spent money on that app just to confirm I'm tired and boring. Has anyone else actually found a use for this data besides feeling worse?

Sleep more than 7 hours" - that's actually the minimum for most adults, not the sweet spot. You might need 8 or 9 to feel good, especially if you're running a deficit.

Interesting take! I actually see it a bit differently though. Sleep needs vary a lot person to person, and some people feel great on 6 hours while others need 9 to function. My brother is one of those weird 6 hour people, wakes up bouncing around at 5am naturally. Meanwhile I'm a solid 8 hour guy, anything less and I'm a grumpy mess by noon. So saying 7 hours is the minimum for most adults feels like a broad generalization that doesn't match what I see around me.

Oh man, that's a totally fair point! I mean, I feel like we're all missing something though. What about the quality of sleep versus just the number of hours? Like, I can sleep 9 hours but if I wake up every hour or my room is too hot or I had caffeine too late, I still feel awful. Meanwhile my friend only gets 6 hours but sleeps like a log in a cold dark room with zero interruptions and she's fine. So maybe the number isn't the whole story, it's more about how deep and consistent your sleep actually is. I guess some people just have different sleep cycles or something too.
