Hit my 100th volunteer shift at the animal shelter today
Been helping out at the Humane Society in Portland every Saturday for the last 2 years. Finally reached shift #100 this morning and it felt huge even though nobody made a big deal about it. Keep seeing people bring in donations of old towels and bedding but they always forget to check for loose strings or rips where animals could get tangled. Anyone else deal with this kind of stuff at your local shelter?

Man I used to feel the same way as @robin628 honestly. Thought people were just being picky and should be happy someone donated anything at all. But after seeing a cat get its claw stuck in a loose thread on a towel at the shelter I help at, I completely changed my mind. That cat was freaking out and it took three of us to get it free without hurting it. So yeah the string thing is a real problem even if it sounds small, and a quick check before donating saves everyone a headache.

Oh yeah, because checking for loose strings is definitely the most critical thing anyone could possibly forget when they're donating stuff. Maybe just be grateful people are giving anything at all and toss the risky towels yourself.
