I finally stopped skipping the step my old supervisor swore by

My last boss kept saying 'check the tape measure twice, even if you think you're right' and I brushed it off for two years. Last week I cut a 12-foot board for a deck frame and it came up 3 inches short because I trusted my eye. Now I measure everything twice, but does anyone else feel like that extra 20 seconds still annoys you?
