My bank teller in Boise talked me out of a $6 monthly fee and I'm still confused about why
I went in to open a second checking account last Tuesday and she said to just use the free one I already had instead of paying for 'perks' I'd never touch, which saved me $72 a year. Now I'm wondering how many other small fees I've been handing over without thinking, what's one you caught late?
I got hit with a $3.95 monthly "account maintenance" fee for almost two years before I noticed. My credit union let me switch to a no-fee checking that just needs a $100 balance, and that was that. Check your last few statements line by line, not just the total, because those little charges hide in there and add up fast. Also ask about paper statement fees, some banks charge $2 to $5 just to mail your own info to you.
