My boss insisted I skip the client's pre-meeting checklist and it backfired big time.

He said 'trust me, it's just busywork' before our pitch to a firm in Austin, but they asked about item seven specifically and we looked totally unprepared. Has anyone else had a manager push back on a client's process only for it to blow up?

Yeah, "trust me, it's just busywork" is such a red flag. I had a boss who called a client's safety forms "pointless paperwork." We skipped a step, and it turned out that was the exact item their insurance auditor checked first during a site visit. It created a huge delay and made our whole company look careless. That kind of shortcut never seems to save time, it just moves the problem to the client meeting where everyone can see it.

Ever think that boss just hates being told what to do, @sandra_bennett59?

Did your boss ever admit they were wrong?
