My brother's 4 a.m. text about our dad's retirement plan got me thinking

Last Tuesday my younger brother sent me a text at 4 a.m. saying he wanted to move our dad into a care facility, but our dad keeps insisting he can manage his own bills and cooking. I've been the one driving over every weekend to check on him, and honestly I see both sides. My brother lives 400 miles away in Portland and only sees Dad twice a year, so he sees the decline in numbers and safety risks. I see Dad still making his own chili and yelling at the TV, and I can't picture taking that freedom away from him. But then I found three unpaid utility notices in his kitchen drawer last month, and that shook me. So who's right here: the person who sees the practical problems from a distance, or the one who sees his stubborn dignity up close? Has anyone else had this split with a sibling over an aging parent, and how did you settle it?
