My kid's school project almost broke me, but we got it done.
So my son had this big diorama due on Friday about the Oregon Trail. He told me about it Monday, but you know how it goes, life got busy. Thursday night rolls around and it's a full blown crisis, we need a shoebox, clay, paint, the whole deal. I'm at the grocery store at 8 PM buying a new pair of shoes just for the box. We stayed up past midnight gluing little clay oxen to popsicle sticks. I was so tired and grumpy, but seeing him so proud to hand it in this morning, that was the win. It wasn't perfect, but we did it together without a huge fight. Anyone else ever pull a last minute school night miracle?

Oh man, that sounds so familiar! My friend was up until 2 AM last week helping her daughter build a model of the solar system. She used styrofoam balls from a craft store and painted them, but then realized she had nothing to hang them from. She ended up using a wire clothes hanger and a whole roll of fishing line. She said it looked pretty janky, but her kid was just beaming the next day. Those late night panic projects are the worst, but the look on their face makes it worth it.

Remember seeing a solar system model at a school science fair. The kid used a big piece of wood for the base, drilled holes, and stuck dowel rods in at different heights. Planets were on the rods. Way more stable than hanging stuff. @avery219 is right, it's a tough spot to be in. That wood base idea is solid though, no fishing line tangles.
