Picked the 'cheap' storage unit over the climate controlled one and now my books smell like mildew

I saved $30 a month by going with the basic unit, but after 6 weeks of summer humidity everything got that damp basement odor. Has anyone found a way to get mildew smell out of old paperback books?

Oh man, that sucks so bad! I did the same thing last year and it was a total disaster. You gotta try putting the books in a sealed plastic bin with baking soda for a few days. That can pull a lot of the smell out. If that doesn't work, you can try leaving them in direct sunlight for a few hours, but be careful with the covers fading. I learned the hard way that paying a little extra for climate control is totally worth it. Good luck getting that musty smell out!

@rowan_thomas84 nailed it, baking soda is your only hope now.

Listen to @rowan_thomas84 on the baking soda thing - it really does work. I've rescued a whole box of old paperbacks that way. Just give em a couple days sealed up TIGHT with a big open container of it.
