Rant: I spent $80 on a fancy meal kit and it was a total waste

I got a three meal box last week thinking it would make my evenings easier. It took longer than just shopping and cooking myself, and the portions were tiny. Has anyone else felt let down by these services?

I tried a meal kit once and spent 45 minutes just prepping the vegetables. I gave up and ordered a pizza. @the_claire has a point about them being a middleman, but the real fix for me was just picking two simple recipes each week and sticking to them. No more boxes.

It's just dinner, right? You paid for a bit of convenience and it didn't work out. These kits are basically a middleman for groceries with extra steps. Maybe try a different brand next time or just drop the idea completely. Was it really worth getting that upset over?

Hey, I get where you're coming from, but calling it "just dinner" feels off to me. For a lot of people, that $80 is a big deal. It's not just about the food, it's the broken promise. They sell it as a time-saver, but like you said, it took longer. I got one where I had to mince my own garlic and zest a lemon for a sauce that barely covered the chicken. That's not convenience, that's a chore I paid extra for. I think @the_claire is right that it's a middleman, but that's exactly why it's so frustrating. You're paying a premium for what feels like a regular Tuesday night recipe with worse portions.

Ever feel like you're paying for a cooking lesson you didn't want? The promise is what gets me, too. It's just not the easy button they sell it as.
