Rant: My coworker turned down a $4,000 raise to keep working from home 3 days a week
My coworker Dana got offered a promotion last Tuesday that came with a $4,000 raise, but it meant coming into the office in Columbus all 5 days, and she turned it down on the spot to keep her 3 remote days. I keep going back and forth on whether she made the smart call, since that money is real but so is 2 hours of her life back every day. What would you have done, take the cash or keep the freedom?
What does Dana actually do with those two hours she gets back? If she is just sitting in traffic and then collapsing on the couch, the raise might be worth more than people give it credit for. But if she is using that time for her kids, the gym, or just not being miserable, then $4,000 is a small price for the company to pay for her sanity.
