Shoutout to my neighbor for making me reconsider my lawn care routine

I used to think watering my grass every single day was the only way to keep it green. Then my neighbor across the street, an older guy named Frank, told me to stop back in June. He explained that daily watering makes the roots lazy and shallow, so they can't handle a dry spell. I argued with him for a few weeks until a heatwave hit our block in Baltimore. My lawn turned brown and crispy while his stayed decent with just twice a week watering. After 10 days of that heat, I finally tried his method and saw new growth within two weeks. It made me wonder what other stubborn habits I have that are actually making things worse. Has anyone else had a gardening tip from a neighbor that totally flipped your thinking?

Frank sounds like he knows what he's talking about. I just water when the grass looks sad.

Do you actually check the soil first or just guess when it looks thirsty?
