Vent: I just realized I was ruining my laundry for 10 years

Last week my mom came over and watched me dump detergent straight onto my clothes in the washer. She laughed and said I was supposed to put it in the dispenser tray first. I thought the tray was just for bleach or fabric softener. Turns out I been using three times as much soap this whole time and my clothes never really got clean. Now I got that orange gunk stuck in my washer drawer and I feel like a total idiot. Anyone else figure out a basic adult skill way later than they should have?

Ten years is ridiculous. Like how do you not read the manual once or ask someone? Detergent has instructions right on the bottle. That orange gunk isn't new either, it's been building up for a decade. Probably gonna need a new machine now.

Yeah @dakota415 they probably just ignored that funk for years thinking it was normal.

Ha, well ain't that a kick in the pants! I laughed way too hard at this because @kim.jake I bet you got a story like mine. I was 32 before I figured out you're supposed to clean the lint trap in the dryer every single time, not just when it looks full. Spent a decade wondering why my clothes took three cycles to dry and smelled like burnt dust. At least you caught the gunk before your machine caught fire, silver lining right?
