Hot take: my barber in Tulsa told me he raised his prices 40% and lost zero regulars
I got my hair cut last Friday at the same little shop on 11th Street I have gone to for four years, and my barber Marcus mentioned he bumped his cuts from $25 to $35 back in the spring. I asked if people left and he said out of maybe 200 regulars, three quit, and two of those came back within two months. He said the weird part was that new customers started coming in more, like the higher price made people trust him more somehow. I sat there with the cape on thinking about how I price my own side work, and I have been scared to charge more than $30 an hour for lawn care jobs for two summers now. He pulled out his phone and showed me his booking app, fully packed out three weeks ahead. Now I am sitting here wondering if I have been the reason my own wallet stays thin. Has anyone else raised their prices and been shocked by who stuck around?
