Hot take: the "fix it Friday" at my shop nearly killed my Saturday
I work at a bike shop in Portland. Last Friday we had a guy drop off a 2018 Trek with a busted derailleur hanger. I spent 45 minutes aligning it on the stand but forgot to check the limit screws before test riding it. The chain jumped off on a hill and locked up the rear wheel. I ate pavement pretty hard on NE 12th and had to walk the bike back with a bloody elbow. Anyone else ever skip a simple step and pay for it right away?

Did you check the cable tension too? That's a brutal way to learn the hard way.

Did you REALLY skip the limit screws on a test ride though? A derailleur alignment without checking limits is like changing a tire without tightening the lug nuts; it's the most basic part of the job. You basically asked for that chain to jump off.
