Just realized my 4 minute drill time dropped to 2:40 after one old guy told me to stop gripping the ladder so hard
We do timed ladder drills every few months at the station and I've been stuck around the 4 minute mark for over a year. A retired captain from a house across town came by to watch and said I was white knuckling the rails, which was making me stiff and slow on the turns. I tried loosening up the next run and shaved 80 seconds off, which nobody believed until they watched me do it again. Turns out I was fighting the ladder instead of moving with it, and the fix cost me nothing. Anyone else get taught something tiny that flipped a whole skill for them?
Did you ever have a coach tell you something so simple you felt dumb for not seeing it? Same thing happened to me with pressure washing, I was holding the wand way too tight and my arm would be shot after ten minutes. Loosened my grip and suddenly I could work twice as long without getting tired.
