The 10-minute timer trick that stopped my doomscrolling spiral

I kept picking up my phone at 9 PM and suddenly it's midnight with nothing to show for it. So last Tuesday I set a kitchen timer for 10 minutes before opening any app, just as a delay. When it rang, I realized I didn't even want to look anymore, the urge had passed. Now I do it every night and I'm actually reading books again. Has anyone tried a similar waiting period or do you just delete the apps cold turkey?

This is almost exactly what worked for me, but I used 15 minutes and put my phone in another room first. The weird part is that the first few times I'd go grab it after the timer, but by the third or fourth night I was already halfway through a chapter and just let it ring. Now I charge my phone in the kitchen overnight too, which helped way more than any app blocker ever did.
