Tried fixing a squeaky door with WD-40 and it went silent for exactly one day
I sprayed my bedroom door hinge last Tuesday because the squeak was driving me nuts, and by Wednesday morning it was back louder than before. Turns out WD-40 is a cleaner not a lube, and I should have used a lithium grease like my neighbor told me. Anyone else learned the hard way that the default fix isn't always the right one?

Wait, so it actually evaporates completely? That's wild, I had no idea.

Drop it on a hot engine block by accident and you'll see just how fast it evaporates. @lewis.terry I learned that one the hard way. It's good for squeaky hinges and stuck zippers but don't expect it to hang around. WD-40 is basically the fleeting friend of the tool world.
