Cousin told me to use vinegar instead of fabric softener and my towels actually work now
My cousin Sarah kept saying fabric softener ruins towels by coating the fibers. I thought she was full of it since I've used Downy for years. Tried it last week with white vinegar in the rinse cycle and my bath towels actually absorb water now instead of just pushing it around. Has anyone else switched to vinegar and noticed a real difference after a few washes?

Yes, after switching to vinegar my towels actually started soaking up water instead of just pushing it around.

Vinegar actually made them absorbent again? I always thought that was just one of those old wives' tales people pass around. My towels have been getting that waxy, repelling water feeling lately and I was ready to just throw them out. Might have to try this next laundry day, even if it makes the whole house smell like a salad for a bit.

Did you just swap it for fabric softener or actually do a vinegar soak?
