Had a weird breakthrough while cleaning my garage last Saturday

I was out in my garage last weekend trying to organize a mountain of old paint cans and random hardware. I found a receipt from 2018 for a drill I bought and never even opened - it was still in the box under a stack of rags. It got me thinking about all the stuff I buy "just in case" that sits around for years. I filled half a trash bag with just expired caulking tubes and dried up glue bottles. Has anyone else found something brand new buried in their junk that they completely forgot about?

expired caulking tubes and dried up glue bottles" is basically a summary of my whole garage situation lol. I read this article once about how hoarding "just in case" stuff is actually a form of anxiety, like you're prepping for disasters that never happen. Reminds me of @the_jake finding those lightbulbs, probably still sitting in a drawer somewhere too. I once found a full unopened pack of sandpaper from 2016 behind a shelf, felt like I won a tiny lottery but also realized how much junk I really have.

Dude I found a brand new unopened box of lightbulbs from like 2015 once so I feel you.

Holding onto a box of lightbulbs from 2015 is barely a blip on the hoarding radar though. The anxiety angle feels a little heavy for a pack of sandpaper someone found behind a shelf. I mean my dad still has extension cords from the 90s sitting in a box and he's not anxious about anything except his golf swing. Sometimes stuff just migrates to the back of a shelf and you forget about it, doesn't mean you're prepping for the apocalypse. Found an unopened can of paint from 2018 in my basement last month, still gonna use it for touch ups eventually. Maybe I'm just lazy, not anxious.
