Heard a guy at the cafe say his dog learned 20 tricks in a month

I was eavesdropping on this dude at Blue Bottle downtown, he was telling his friend he taught his border collie 20 new tricks just using a clicker and tiny pieces of cheese. Made me wonder if I could train my cat to stop knocking stuff off my desk with the same method, has anyone tried clicker training on a stubborn adult cat?

Yeah I clicked trained my old tomcat to sit and high five, takes patience but totally doable.

janah83, you mentioned clicker training your tomcat and that's cool but here's the thing nobody's talking about. The real question isn't if you can teach a cat tricks, it's if that same clicker can teach them to stop doing the bad stuff. I used a clicker to train my older rescue cat to stop jumping on the kitchen counters. Every time her paws hit the floor from the counter, click and treat. Took about three weeks before she stopped trying. Your mileage may vary with the desk knocking though, that's a tougher habit because they get a reaction from you when they do it.

My cat just sits there and stares at me when I try clicker stuff.

Twenty tricks in a month sounds like a lot of noise for a stubborn cat.
