Ran into a cashier from 3 years ago and she still remembered my order
I walked into this diner in Portland last Tuesday for the first time since 2022. The cashier looked at me and said "grilled cheese with tomato soup, no pickles on the side right?" I had completely forgotten that I went there like twice a week for a few months. It was weirdly nice that someone just remembered a small thing like that without me saying anything. Has anyone else had a stranger remember something about you that you forgot yourself?

Is it really that deep though? I mean, yeah it's kinda cool she remembered your soup order but also... she probably sees hundreds of faces a week and yours just stuck out because you came in all the time for a few months. Not exactly a miracle, just her brain doing its job. Plus, my friends always joke that I still remember random people's coffee orders from years ago and I'm just like "yeah because I'm a human with a working memory.

Man, I feel you on this. It's not like she unlocked some hidden mystery of the universe by remembering what soup he likes. People act like basic human memory is some kind of supernatural gift now. I still remember the exact sandwich order of a guy I haven't seen in three years just because he came in every Tuesday for like two months straight. It's just how our brains work when we do the same thing over and over. I get why it feels nice for the person who hears it, but calling it some deep connection feels like way too much. It's just a normal thing, nothing more.
