The park bench by the pond got silent in 3 days

I sit there every morning with coffee, and two weeks ago it was full of geese and kids feeding them. By Tuesday they were gone, no sign of feathers or droppings, and I found out the city treated the water for algae. Has anyone else noticed how fast wildlife gives up on a spot once the water changes?
