Thought I was wasting money on a quality chef knife, then I tried dicing onions with a dull one at a friend's house
I've been using the same $80 Wusthof for 5 years now. Last week I went over to help a buddy meal prep and he handed me this generic knife from a block set. Felt like I was fighting the onion the whole time. Nearly sliced my finger off when it slipped. That 15 minute job took 40 minutes. Made me realize how much I take that good knife for granted. Anyone else have a tool they didn't think mattered until they used a bad version?

Sharp knife saves time and keeps your fingers attached.

@piper779 is right about the screwdriver thing, but is a dull knife really that big of a deal? People act like you'll lose a finger if it's not razor sharp.

Is it funny how we don't notice the little things until we have to use a crummy version? It's like that with a lot of stuff, not just knives. Once I used a friends screwdriver that was all stripped out and it took me ten minutes just to get one screw loose. Makes you realize you're paying for the time and frustration you don't have to deal with. A good tool just lets you focus on what you're actually doing instead of fighting the tool itself.

Think about safety too. A dull knife makes you push harder and that's when it slips and cuts you way worse than a sharp one ever would.
