Vent: the paper map beat my phone GPS on a 6 hour drive to Duluth, and I'm still mad about it
My phone died at mile 40 with no charger, so my wife pulled out the old paper map from the glove box, and we actually got there faster than the app ever did because it didn't keep rerouting us around every tiny slowdown, and now I'm sitting here wondering if I've been an idiot for 10 years, has anyone else gone back to paper maps or am I just old?
We did the same thing on a trip to the Ozarks last summer when my phone kept losing signal in the hills. My wife grabbed an old state map from the gas station and honestly it was less stressful. No voice yelling at me to take the next exit, no weird detours through random neighborhoods. We just picked the road that went the right way and stayed on it. I still use the phone for city driving but for long highway runs I keep a map in the door pocket now.
