Appreciation post: the 2 dollar kitchen timer that finally got me off my phone
I always rolled my eyes at those posts about putting your phone in another room while you work. Last Tuesday I was trying to clean my apartment and kept picking up my phone every 4 minutes, so I grabbed an old wind up timer from the drawer and set it for 20 minutes. I got my whole kitchen done in two rounds and never touched my phone once. Now I use it for laundry, dishes, even reading, and I actually finish stuff instead of scrolling. It sounds silly but that little ticking thing works better than any app I tried. Has anyone else gone back to a plain timer or am I the last one holding out?
I'm with you on this one. I thought those "put your phone away" tips were just people being dramatic, but I finally tried setting a timer while folding laundry last month and got through the whole basket without checking anything. There's something about the ticking that just keeps you moving.
