Found out my 'quick oil change' places have been lying about $30 worth of work

So I track all my car stuff in a notebook and last week I noticed my oil change receipt said 'synthetic blend' but the price matched conventional. Called three different shops in my town just to ask if they actually use what's on the sticker. Two of them admitted they just pick whatever bottle is closest. Ngl that's pretty sketchy for something that can mess up your engine over time. Has anyone else double checked what their shop actually puts in? I'm thinking of just doing it myself from now on.

Oh man, my buddy caught his shop doing the same thing. He checked the filter they put in and it was some no-name brand he'd never heard of, not the OEM one they charged him for.

That "no-name brand" trick seems to be everywhere these days, whether it's car parts or grocery items.

Read a Consumer Reports article about that exact thing last week...
