Just realized I lost $75 on a 'productivity app' that did nothing but look pretty

I fell for one of those fancy to-do list apps that promised to organize my whole life. It was $75 for a year subscription and it just made lists with nice colors. Meanwhile my free Google Keep was working fine the whole time. Which side are you on - pay for the premium tools or stick with the freebies that get the job done?

I fell for the same thing a few years back. A $60 "focus timer" app that just had a nicer interface than the free one already on my phone. What finally worked for me was setting a rule: I try the free version for a full month first. If I'm still using it after that and genuinely need a feature the free one doesn't have, then I'll consider paying. Otherwise, I stick with what's already working.

@hugoj12, wasn't that frustrating? I did something similar with a habit tracker app, paid $40 for features I could have gotten free with just a little more patience.
