Remembering the guy at the hardware store who showed me how to fix a leaky faucet

I was about 25 at an Ace in Portland and this old timer spent 15 minutes walking me through replacing a washer. He said 'don't buy the cheap brass ones, they'll strip out on ya.' Still think about that whenever I touch a pipe. Anyone else have a stranger just really help them out one time?

My uncle used to say the same thing about brass fittings and now I'm like "okay boomer, I'll get the stainless steel ones" lmao. I mean, it's a faucet washer, not heart surgery. You can swap those things out for like $2 if it strips so I dunno why people act like it's this life changing wisdom. Maybe the guy was just bored and wanted someone to talk to.

Swapping a brass one for stainless steel saved me a headache last year. That little tip the old timer gave you actually holds up, the cheap stuff really does get stripped easier.
