Spotted this little library swap spot near the post office and it's a game changer for slow days

There's this little free library box I noticed on 5th street next to the post office, and I always have those 10-15 minute gaps between deliveries where I'm just waiting around. I popped open the door the other day and somebody left a whole stack of paperback thrillers in there, not all beat up either. I grabbed one called The Silent Patient and read like 30 pages during my lunch break sitting in my truck. It's just nice to have something to do that isn't scrolling my phone for once. The book exchange thing works if you just drop one off when you take one, so I'm gonna leave a couple old ones I've got sitting at home. Has anyone else found a good random reading spot that turns downtime into something better?

Same here honestly I always thought those lil library boxes were just decoration but after grabbing a Stephen King from one last week I'm fully converted. Now I'm checking every one I drive past.

Wait are you serious? The Silent Patient is a damn good find for a free box, those are usually full of outdated cookbooks and 90s romance novels with torn covers. The real question is did you actually get through it without someone honking at you to move your truck? Because I swear the second I crack a book open on a break is the second the universe decides I need to be somewhere else immediately. What I want to know is how often do you actually see people using those little library things? I pass three of them on my regular route and I swear they never change, like nobody actually touches them.

I found a worn copy of The Road in one of those boxes last summer and I swear I checked the next ten boxes I passed hoping for another score. But nah, mostly just old James Patterson novels with the covers half ripped off. The ones near the park by my neighborhood actually do get used though, I see kids swapping out picture books pretty often. It's the ones in front of office buildings that seem cursed, I'm convinced those are just decoration at this point.
